The single biggest complaint I hear, bar none, is 'I'm broke'.
Life is hard, life is expensive and none of us earns enough, right?
I'm calling bullshit.
Yes, many salaries have been frozen or have been cut over the last 8 years, the cost of housing is increasing and many people's pensions took a stumble over the change in markets. I'm not talking about the wider scheme of things, the cost of bread and milk and rent.
I want to focus on you and your feast and famine cycle.
Have you noticed it this week? The perceptible change in the temperature and air. The crisper mornings. The occasional mists. Whether or not September will be the hottest on record, there has been a definitive change to the autumnal this week. Driving back from Birmingham yesterday, there was low lying mist on the fields around the motorway and the sun, although bright, was not as warm as it had been.
I was so angry with myself recently. I spent an entire weekend suffering aches and pains, exhausted and feeling so, so down. An entire weekend wasted in the flip side of over-exertion at work.
You would think that the burnout mentor would know better, right? Wrong.
Call it the effects of austerity or the rise of Etsy, everyone around you seems to have a hobby these days. Hobbycraft is no longer for the kids and boutique yarn shops seem to be popping up all around. Yet all you can wonder is how the hell other people have the time for it.
Sure, your granny knitted you cardigans as a kid but she didn’t have nearly as much on her plate as you do. Our generation has more struggles and stress than ever before (thanks to all our mums who said we could have it all. You didn’t tell us exactly what all meant…)
Technology is amazing. There has never been a more exciting innovating and awe-inspiring time to live than right now. We are living on the forefront of technological breakthroughs that seemed impossible only years ago.
