Pedal to the metal

I am so embarrassed to admit this, but over the summer I was caught speeding.

I knew my lead foot would get me in to trouble at some point but I am constantly running late.  Always.  Like the song says;

Not like it's in my control, not like I'm proud of the fact; but anything other than being exactly on time I can do!

Know when it's you... and when it's them.

There's a funny thing about burnout.

Feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, shattered and struggling does terrible things to your mind.

You start to believe that everyone else has it all figured out and that you are the sole screw up of your friends and colleagues.

That the workload you're drowning other is perfectly normal and it's simply you, feeling so tired and unable to cope.

That you can't continue any further, but can't see any way off your current track.

Stop the Sunday night tears

Stop the Sunday night tears

You're not alone.

I went for coffee with an old colleague a while back.  She came to me because she knew I had gone through my own issues of burnout, exhaustion and resilience.  She became quite emotional as she told me how she had slowly come to realise that this job wasn't working, that it wasn't what she had wanted to do and she wasn't having the impact that she wanted.

Then, quietly, checking around her to make sure that no one else was listening, she confessed that she had been in tears every Sunday for months.

If you have caught any of my recent live videos (all held within the private Searching for Serenity group) then you will have heard a phrase I have been using;

'It's time to be the CEO of your life, instead of the scullery maid'

What do I mean by this?
